Community Angels
On behalf of the Trustees of Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy I am writing to thank the Trustees of Guildford Philanthropy for their most generous grant towards the work of our Community Angels project to contribute towards staff costs in the first six months of 2024.
Headway Surrey – Core costs
The donation of £6,000 from the Community Foundation of Surrey made such a difference to Headway Surrey. It has enabled the charity to continue to offer a wide range of services to adults in Surrey with acquired brain injury and stroke. Services from counselling, to walking talking groups, pottery lessons, training on how to cope with a brain injury, drop ins, coffee mornings, hospital liaison work and much more. We are able with this money to continue to support up to 60 people a week. Funding is really difficult at the moment for everyone, so this has had a huge impact on our charity. Thank you.
Surrey Care Trust – Swingbridge Community Boats
Thanks to the support of Guildford Philanthropy, people of all ages and abilities can benefit from our beautiful waterways through the wellbeing trips and activities delivered from Surrey Care Trust’s two Swingbridge Boats.
Yvonne Arnaud Theatre Management – Discover Theatre Project
Provided the opportunity for 10 Key Stage 2 pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), to take part in an arts-based pantomime project which utilized the artistic resources of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and championed the work of professional artists. The workshops covered a range of themes, including introduction to panto, exploring the theatre including backstage, creating panto characters, designing panto costumes, writing slosh scenes, devising, directing, working with an artist, rehearsing, and performing a finale presentation/ showing.
GASP Motor Project
GASP Motor Project has welcomed two very generous grants from Guildford Philanthropy, enabling us to deliver life-changing vocational training courses in motor mechanics to disadvantaged children and young people.
Home-Start Guildford – Volunteer recruitment
Guildford Philanthropy has kindly supported Home-Start Guildford in recruiting new volunteers. Volunteers are experienced parents, who commit to our 6 session Preparation Course then matched with a family, living in the borough, who need some additional support in parenting their young family. Families might, for example, find themselves isolated from extended family support or be suffering from mental or physical ill-health, be on a low income or have twins, triplets or children very close in age. Volunteers develop a working relationship with the family and visit their home for two to three hours a week, for around 9-12 months. Support is simple, but effective – folding washing; a listening ear; an extra pair of hands; watching the baby while Mum naps or showers. Parents often describe their volunteer as “a life-saver” who makes a massive difference to their lives. Only 2% of our funding now comes from the local authority, so applying for grants and donations is a constant task.
Oakleaf Enterprise – Grants
“Having been out of the workplace for a few years due to my mental health, I was looking to prepare to return. When I started going to Oakleaf, I used the IT suite to refresh my MS excel skills, completing the guided course. I re-learnt those lost skills and added some extra ones so I felt a lot more confident walking into work. That boost to my self esteem was extremely helpful.
