Provided the opportunity for 10 Key Stage 2 pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), to take part in an arts-based pantomime project which utilized the artistic resources of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and championed the work of professional artists. The workshops covered a range of themes, including introduction to panto, exploring the theatre including backstage, creating panto characters, designing panto costumes, writing slosh scenes, devising, directing, working with an artist, rehearsing, and performing a finale presentation/ showing.
“The children have become more confident in their speaking and listening skills. They have been able to demonstrate they can perform in front of a group, share their ideas and follow simple instructions. They have challenged themselves to have a go at unfamiliar activities in new venues with new adults. It has been wonderful to see and hear the children’s enthusiasm for visiting the theatre and talking about wanting to see more shows in future.” – A teacher involved in the workshops
