Stevens & Bolton is a law firm with roots in Surrey going back well over a hundred years. With a single office in Guildford housing a team of around 250, we are one of the south east’s largest law firms outside London. Most of our work is for business clients, ranging from FTSE 100 to entrepreneurs and their businesses. We also provide private clients support with family matters and wills, trusts and tax advice. We are independently recommended in the leading law firm guides in 26 different specialist areas, and have regularly been winners or short-listed in the main law firm awards.
Being a good corporate citizen is important to us. We aim to play a positive role in the communities which we inhabit and to carefully manage the impact of our business socially and environmentally. As well as Guildford Philanthropy, we support our current staff charity the Halow Project and we support a number of other charities including Children in Need, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, Oxfam and Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. We also support PRIME, an alliance of law firms and legal departments across the UK committed to broadening access to the legal profession.
We asked Richard why Stevens & Bolton had got involved with Guildford Philanthropy – he said: “We were one of the founding members, and I can blame our former managing partner Ken Woffenden! Ken rightly identified the potential in this initiative and was drawn to the energy of some of the key figures including Peter Cluff. We also felt that the social enterprise agenda complemented our other CSR commitments, and the representation and support from Guildford Borough Council would give added impetus.
With the success of the corporate ambassador initiative and other efforts to build the financial platform of Guildford Philanthropy, and its clarity of purpose, we believe that Guildford Philanthropy can make a lasting difference on our doorstep.”
“Our involvement so far has included hosting board meetings at our central Guildford location and other occasional events, sitting on the board and helping to brainstorm the strategic development of the initiative, encouraging others to support and become corporate ambassadors and joining team visits to actual on potential projects to support. We hope to widen the engagement through more members of the S&B team getting involved over time, and look forward to further opportunities to network with other corporate ambassadors.”
