Guildford Philanthropy today launched its new website to help raise awareness and encourage local giving to tackle local need. It can be found at www.guildfordphilanthropy.org.uk
The charity was established five years ago by Guildford Borough Council and the Community Foundation for Surrey to help transform the lives of less fortunate members of our community and address the disadvantage that exists on our doorstep.
Peter Cluff, the Chairman of Guildford Philanthropy, says “Many people are aware of the flattering statistics which show that Guildford has more streets where the average price of a home is over £1m than anywhere outside Central London and the fact that Guildfordians pay more inheritance tax per head than anywhere else in the Country; but not so well publicised is that fact that within our Borough we have 6,000 adults without any qualifications and there are nearly 2,400 children living in poverty. As a consequence the chasm between the “haves” and the “have-nots” is wider in Guildford than in any other part of the country”
The new website provides more information on the need within the local community, the work that Guildford Philanthropy is supporting and how both individuals and corporates can help. Guildford Borough Council provides match funding for all donations to encourage local residents and businesses to help address the disadvantage that exists on their doorstep.
