Guildford Philanthropy’s Latest Corporate Ambassador
Guildford Philanthropy is delighted to announce that Guildford Jazz has today become its latest Corporate Ambassador, in a partnership that is a first for Guildford Philanthropy, to work with another not-for-profit organisation in an Ambassador role.
As part of a broader philanthropic partnership, Guildford Jazz has agreed to donate all profits from Guildford Jazz Fest 20 to Guildford Philanthropy. Guildford Jazz Fest is a weekend of jazz featuring a wide spectrum of music from some of the UK’s top jazz artists. It will run from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd March 2020 at Guildford’s Electric Theatre.
Guildford Philanthropy was set up in 2014 to help disadvantaged members of the Guildford Borough community, primarily by promoting social enterprise projects which deliver training opportunities, work experience, jobs and other benefits to local people who need help –whether due to poor education, disability or mental illness. This year, Guildford Philanthropy launched a new initiative to encourage 25 local organisations to become their Founding Corporate Ambassadors to help raise awareness and tackle local need, both through donations and offerings of non-financial support.
Guildford Jazz is a thriving, not for profit, community arts organisation that organises regular gigs by the finest UK jazz musicians in a jazz club setting at the Guildford Electric Theatre and the Pavilion at Guildford Rugby Club.
Peter Cluff, Guildford Philanthropy’s Chairman said: “Guildford Jazz is the first arts organisation and first not for profit organisation to become a corporate supporter of Guildford Philanthropy. We believe it will be a great complement to our existing commercial ambassadors, establish a model for other arts organisation and community/event fund raising and help us to raise the profile of Guildford Philanthropy. There is a wonderful mutual benefit and enjoyment in two not for profit organisations working together to help their local community.”
Marianne Windham, Guildford Jazz’s Founder and Chair commented: “We believe great music and philanthropic giving go hand in hand. As a not for profit organisation, we are delighted to be able to give some of the modest surpluses we make from our gigs and festivals to help less fortunate members of our local community. We are proud to have raised over £36,000 for local charities like Challengers and G.U.T.S since we started up in 2011. Going forwards we are really excited about expanding our charitable activities by working with Guildford Philanthropy to help local disadvantaged young people and carers”.

Guildford Philanthropy
Established in 2014,by Guildford Borough Council and the Community Foundation for Surrey, Guildford Philanthropy seeks to give opportunity and tackle need in the local community through promoting social enterprise and delivering training opportunities. Projects supported include the Guildford Bike Project, Glade and Furniture Link. More recently Guildford Philanthropy has established links with the Business School at the University of Surrey to develop training programmes for social entrepreneurs and is also seeking to launch its own social enterprise initiatives aided by its new Corporate Ambassadors.
Guildford Philanthropy Corporate Ambassadors
In June 2019, Guildford Philanthropy officially launched an initiative to find 25 local businesses to become its Founding Corporate Ambassadors. The intention was to develop a network of like minded firms who cared about their local community and were keen to help, both individually and collectively, raise awareness and provide both financial and non-financial support. Within the first 100 days over 20 firms had signed up.
Guildford Jazz
Guildford Jazz is a local, not for profit, community interest company whose aim is to bring some of Britain’s finest musicians to a local Surrey audience. Since Guildford Jazz started running regular events in March 2011, it has organised over 250 regular gigs for an audience of around 13,000 music lovers.
