We recently received a letter from the Big Leaf Foundation about how our donations have helped their equine project, and improved the mental health of a number of their volunteers.
The letter mentioned one particular young man, who grew up with horses and represented his county at Eventing but had to flee his home due to racial persecution. Since arriving in the UK, he missed his horses so much that he couldn’t focus on anything else. His Refugee Council therapist contacted the Big Leaf Foundation in desperation, trying to find a way to help him further.
Since arriving at riding school, with a placement which was partly funded by Guildford Philanthropy, his smile has returned. The most wonderful thing is that the stables have now offered him a voluntary work experience position at weekends.
Thank you to everyone who has donated to Guildford Philanthropy, and especially to our Corporate Ambassadors, for their annual donations.
